For these new students, registration requirements include the completion of a physical examination and documentation that ensures that their immunizations are up to date. While these important requirements help the entire student body stay healthy, they can also become a barrier for school enrollment for children who do not have health insurance

The Annie E. Casey Foundation’s 2008 Kids Count Data Book is now available! The annual Data Book is a national and state-by-state profile of the well-being of America’s children that seeks to enrich discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all kids. The Data Book ranks states on 10 key measures and provides data on the economic, health, education, and social conditions of America’s children and families.

From 1905 to 1984, the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company (J&L) operated a plant in the town of Aliquippa that provided the main means of economic support for approximately 30,000 residents in southwestern Pennsylvania. The steel company’s closure in 1984 as part of the overall steel industry collapse proved devastating for the town. In order to bridge this gap, the Aliquippa Alliance of Unity and Development (AAUD) offers many supplemental education opportunities to Aliquippa youth.
